Project
About the project: 'Climate Farmers'

The knowledge and experience from farmers play an important part in defining best-practices that are cost-efficient and effective. Climate Farmers is a project of and for young European farmers willing to take up their responsibility when it comes to the reduction of GHG emissions on their farms. NAJK and CEJA have gathered practices which are already implemented by young farmers. The focus is on dairy and arable farming. These sectors are the largest in Europe and are carried out in all EU-member states. Therefore measures taken within these sectors will have the largest impact on the decrease in GHG emissions.
A measure is qualified as a best-practice when:
- It results in a reduction of GHG emissions
- It can be easily implemented in the farm management
- It is cost-efficient
The measures are collected by young farmers organisations all over Europe. The database contains a description of 24 practices. 24 European young farmers have taken a closer look at 12 of these best-practices (the case studies), geographically spread all over Europe. They have visited them and looked at transferability to other countries. The visits took place during 4 weekends in January (15-16 and 22-23) and February (5-6 and 12-13) 2011.
The concrete examples complement existing theoretical knowledge about GHG reducing measures in agriculture. They will open the road to new ideas and will raise awareness between the young generations of European farmers.
